Third Grade Art Lesson 28
Looking at Flowers, Part 2 Completing Our Yarn Painting
Objective:
The student will complete their flower yarn painting by adding in a contrasting color for a background.
Materials:
Variety of yarn colors, toothpicks, white glue, work from last lesson
Procedure:
If you did not finish all your flower petals last lesson, do this first. To complete our work we are going to add in a background that is a contrasting color to our flower. Do not pick a color that easily blends with your flower, rather pick either its complementary color. Follow the same procedure that you did with your flower. Be patient as you work. Do not coil your yarn or leave spaces showing. You may choose to use more than one, two, or even three colors in your background. Be sure to press your yarn firmly into the glued area and work on small areas at a time.
Conclusion:
When your yarn painting is dry, you may need to go back and snip the edges to get a straight even line. Take a minute to compare your yarn painting to the flower drawings that you created at the beginning of this lesson. Which one is more interesting? Mount your work and display for everyone to enjoy.
