Third Grade Art Lesson 23
Looking at da Vinci, Part 2 Coloring In Our Mona Lisa Portrait
Objective:
The student will complete their Mona style portrait using colored pencils.
Materials:
Last lesson's drawing, colored pencils
Procedure:
Look at your Mona Lisa portrait and make sure you have an interesting background and the details properly placed. When you feel certain your drawing is complete, begin adding color. Select your colors carefully. Like da Vinci, you'll want to blend your colors, particularly when your coloring hair or other brown objects. Add reds, oranges, yellows, and even white to make your browns more lifelike. Likewise, when coloring other areas of your painting, blend colors that are next to each other on the color wheel to get more value and have a richer finish. Do not rush your work. Do not scribble with your pencils.
Conclusion:
Have the students present their work to the class. Be sure to mount their work and display them for everyone to enjoy.
