Second Grade Art Lesson 11
Making a Thankful Photomontage, Part 2 Drawing our Photomontage
Objective:
The student will work to represent his or her photomontage using pencil and paper. The student will be able to see the same image represented using different media.
Materials:
photomontage from last week, white paper and a pencil
Procedure:
Explain that for our art project today we are going to challenge ourselves to copy our photomontage with a pencil. Encourage the students to do their best and not to worry if their drawing is not exactly like the original photomontage. Looking carefully at the work and finding relationships between the images will help them place things correctly. Suggest they draw off the entire work first lightly with a simple outline. Doing this will make it easier to correct any mistakes they may make. As they get all of the images lightly penciled in they can go back into it to add more detail and darken in areas to create contrast. Encourage the children as they work and help them to avoid getting frustrated and quitting. This is a difficult assignment but is a very good exercise for them to complete.
Conclusion:
Have the children share and discuss their work and the difficulties they may have had to deal with to complete it. Display their pencil drawings next to their photomontage for the entire school to enjoy.
