Base Line Self Portrait
Objective:
The student will draw a self portrait, date it and put it away to use as a comparison for improvement at the end of the year.

Name Designs
Objective:
The student will create a design using their name focusing on the art element line.


3rd Grade Art Lesson 3

Overlapping Shapes / Working with Pattern and Texture
Objective:
The students will review the art elements shape, space, and texture. The student will create a collage using each of these art elements.


3rd Grade Art Lesson 4

Basic Color Theory
Objective:
The student will know the primary, secondary, warm, and cool color schemes. The student will create a color wheel.


3rd Grade Art Lesson 5

Tissue Paper College / Warm and Cool Colors / Fall Leaves
Objective:
The students will know the warm and cool colors and create a collage emphasizing each. The students will create a composition using shapes of fall leaves.


3rd Grade Art Lesson 6

Filling Cool Colors in our Fall Leaf Collage
Objective:
The students will continue working on the collage by using a variety of cool color tissue paper to fill in the background.

Drawing Off the Leaf Lines of Our Tissue Paper Collage with Ink
Objective:
The student will complete their tissue paper collage by using ink to delineate their leaves.


3rd Grade Art Lesson 8

Drawing a Piece of Pottery
Objective:
The student will examine pictures of historical pottery and note how animals are used in the design. Then the students will draw off a piece of pottery to be decorated with animal designs.

Completing Our Pottery Designs
Objective:
The student will complete their drawing by coloring in their animal designs. The student will mount the finished drawing on black paper.

Looking at Architecture / Building a House of Our Dreams
Objective:
The students will examine the architecture of the Taj Mahal as well as St. Basil's Cathedral. The students will design their own dream house and create it using collage.


3rd Grade Art Lesson 11

Looking at Vincent Van Gogh / Drawing a Room in Your House
Objective:
The student will view Vincent Van Gogh's painting Room at Arles. The student will do a drawing of their own room with crayon.


3rd Grade Art Lesson 12

Value Study / Using Value to Create Form
Objective:
The students will know that value is the range of lightness and darkness of a color and that value reveals form. The student will distinguish between shape and form.


3rd Grade Art Lesson 13

Mid Term Self Portrait / A Value Study
Objective:
The student will create their own portrait with white chalk on white paper as well as with black chalk on white paper.

Funny Faces / Working with Photo Montage
Objective:
The student will define photo montage and create a photo montage of a funny face.

Creating a Mosaic Box
Objective:
The students will learn what a mosaic is and create a box with a mosaic design on the top.

Completing Our Mosaic Box
Objective:
The students will complete their mosaic box by painting the rest of the box.

Objective:
The student will examine the painting The Banjo Lesson by Henry Tanner. The student will complete a drawing of themselves with someone special.

Drawing Musical Instruments / Working with Line, Shape, and Color
Objective:
The students will draw a musical instrument and design a background using line, shapes, and color which reflect the character of the instrument.

Looking at Symbols / The Presidential Seal
Objective:
The students will know that a symbol is an image which represents a thing or idea. The students will be able to recognize the Presidential Seal.

Completing Our Presidential Seal Drawings
Objective:
The students will create a radial design as a border for their Presidential Seal drawing.

Designing Your Own Symbol
Objective:
The student will arrange a collection of images to create a family or personal symbol.

Looking at Leonardo da Vinci's Mona Lisa
Objective:
The students will be familiar with da Vinci's Mona Lisa and create a self portrait using the Mona Lisa pose.

Coloring in Our Portrait with Colored Pencils
Objective:
The student will complete their Mona style portrait using colored pencils.


3rd Grade Art Lesson 24

Watercolor Paintings of Sky and Water / Looking at Reflections
Objective:
The student will begin working on a painting about reflections. Each student will watercolor the sky and water first.


3rd Grade Art Lesson 25

Completing Our Reflection Painting
Objective:
The student will complete the painting we began in our last lesson by putting cities, trees or boats on the edge of the water and making a reflection in the water by pressing the paint onto the water surface area.

Final Self Portrait
Objective:
The student will complete a final self portrait using chalk pastels.

Beginning a Flower Yarn Painting
Objective:
The students will examine and do flower studies in order to create a yarn painting of a flower.

Completing Our Yarn Paintings
Objective:
The student will complete their flower yarn painting by adding in a contrasting color for a background.

Looking at Animals / Using Your Imagination
Objective:
The student will be directed to examine a variety of animals. From their studies the student will design their own imaginary animal.

Objective:
The student will complete their animal using crayon or oil pastel.
