Kindergarten Art Lesson 25
Glue Line Flowers, Part 2 Completing our Glue Line Reliefs
Objective:
The student will complete the glue line relief we started in the last class by using shoe polish and paint to create an antique finish.
Materials:
Black wax shoe polish, gold acrylic paint and lots of paper towels (the children will need to put something over their clothing to keep from ruining them)
Procedure:
Take the glue lined cardboard and first put a coat of the black shoe polish all over it, rubbing it thoroughly with the paper towel. Next pour out a small amount of the gold acrylic paint and smear it over the black. Polish the surface until you get a bronze looking finish. Put aside to dry overnight.
Conclusion:
Review what a bronze relief is. Have the children lay their work out so everyone can see each piece. Ask each child to choose one they think looks the most like a bronze relief plate. Point out something positive about each piece (it may be the design, the finish, a good strong relief, interesting petal shapes or a background that complements the overall piece). Mount the work on white or black cardboard and display them in a hallway for everyone in the school to enjoy.
