Kindergarten Art Lesson 15
Self Portrait, Part 2 Completing our Self Portrait
Objective:
The students will focus in on how the artist of the paintings we have studied handled their backgrounds. The students will then complete their own backgrounds on their self portrait while concentrating on coloring solidly and controlling their crayons
Materials:
The self portrait we began last week, crayons, the same paintings we looked at in the last lesson
Procedure:
Begin by looking at each of the paintings once again of the portraits of children. Direct the children to focus in on the background by naming whatever objects they may see, looking at the colors used and how the artist organized the overall background in relation to the portrait. Next, have them begin work on their own drawing. Discuss the importance of using their whole arm to color with rather than just using their fingers. Also, emphasize coloring solidly and with control to fill the entire paper with their color choices.
Conclusion:
Lay or hang the drawings so every child can look at them all. Encourage the students to make positive comments about the work. Display their drawings in the hallway for everyone to enjoy.
