First Grade Art Lesson 6
Fall Leaves, Part 2 Water coloring with Cool Colors
Objective:
The student will complete their fall leaf drawing by filling the background with cool water colors.
Materials:
Watercolors, wide brush, water, newspaper, last lesson's work
Procedure:
To complete our drawing, we will fill the entire background with watercolor. Where we used warm colors on our leaves, we will use cool colors on our background. The process is simple. Pay close attention. Spread newspaper on your working surface under your drawing. Dip your brush into the water and transfer a small quantity into the top of your watercolor tray. Remember that watercolor requires a lot of water. Also you may remember that wax and water do not mix. You will be able to paint right over your leaves without messing up your great drawing. Using the 3 cool colors blue, green, and purple dip your brush to transfer a small amount of cool colors into the water without mixing it into one solid color. Pull your brush across your paper and enjoy watching the color variations appear. The more water you have the lighter your colors will be. If you prefer darker colors, transfer more paint into the water. Enjoy working with your water colors and fill your entire background.
Conclusion:
Put your drawings in a safe to dry. Once they are dry you may want to stack them under weight to flatten. Mount your drawings and display for everyone to enjoy.
