First Grade Art Lesson 16
Printmaking, Part 2 Printing Our Cards
Objective:
The students will print cards using the stamp they made last lesson.
Materials:
Acrylic paint, paintbrush, stamp from last lesson, heavy card stock, paper plate
Procedure:
Today we are going to print our cards. Begin by getting a sheet of card stock. Talk about how greeting cards are folded and show the children that they need to print their design on the right hand half of the card sheet. Squeeze out a small amount of acrylic paint onto a paper plate and have the students use a brush to transfer the paint onto the surface of their stamp. Carefully place your stamp onto the right hand side of your card stock and press firmly straight down, without moving your stamp. Repeat this process to make as many cards as time allows.
Conclusion:
Ask the children to consider what things they use daily that might be printed, i.e. books, magazines, and newspapers. Explain that the process they have just finished is the basic idea behind all printing.
