First Grade Art Lesson 14
Texture, Bean Wiggles
Objective:
The student will use their imagination to create free-form ornaments using white glue and beans.
Materials:
White glue, aluminum foil, a variety of dried beans, spray paint (optional), ribbon
Procedure:
Our project for today is purely for enjoyment and for you to use your imagination. Take your aluminum foil piece. You are going to design free-form shapes using white glue. You may design any type of shape, but thick squiggly lines work particularly well. Make as many free forms as you have room for on your foil. Once you have five or six shapes, take a variety of beans and carefully fill each free form shape full with beans. Make sure you cover all the glue. Set these aside to dry and in the next day or so peel them off and let the underside dry. When your free forms are dry, you may want to have your teacher spray paint your ornaments to get an interesting effect. When dry, you may use ribbon to decorate your ornament and to make a hanging loop.
Conclusion:
Each student should end up having five or six ornaments. Encourage them to share their ornaments or to give as gifts.
