First Grade Art Lesson 13
Geometric Shape Collage Part 2 Making a Rubbing of Our Collage
Objective:
The student will make a rubbing of the collage they made last lesson in order that they may see their composition in a new way.
Materials:
Newsprint paper, crayons without wrappers, last lesson's collage, pencil
Procedure:
Who knows what the word composition means? A composition is how we arrange the parts of our work. We have created many compositions so far this year. Last lesson we created a composition of geometric shapes. But the patterns on those shapes dominate how we see our collage. Let's look at the composition differently. Take your newsprint paper and lay it on top of your collage. Using the side of a crayon, rub it across your paper. This will reveal the composition or arrangement of your shapes. Next, take your pencil and a second sheet of newsprint and copy your rubbing.
Conclusion:
Lay your drawing, your rubbing, and your collage out in a row. Point out similarities and differences and what you like best about each. Mount your color collage and display for everyone to enjoy.
