First Grade Art Lesson 11
Looking at Picasso, Part 2 Finishing Our Picasso Portrait
Objective:
The student will complete their Picasso portrait by gluing down their shapes and filling their background with design.
Materials:
Last lesson's work, glue sticks, crayons
Procedure:
Begin by taking your colored shapes and play with them as though they were puzzle pieces on your background. You do not have to create a symmetrical balance although typically we do tend to want arrange faces that way. Once you have found an arrangement that you like the best, use a glue stick to put glue on the back of each shape and glue them down. You'll notice there is space between your shapes. This space needs to be filled in with either solid color or some kind of pattern. Also you may want to outline around the edges of each individual shape to help them stand out and show up more. You may want to mix your crayon colors, but you definitely want to practice control, i.e. do not scribble.
Conclusion:
Have the students look at each other's work and find positive comments to share. Mount their work and display for everyone to enjoy.
