Fifth Grade Art Lesson 13
Silhouettes, Part 3 Finish Our Silhouette Drawings
Objective:
The students will complete the background of their silhouette using pattern and color to unify their work.
Materials:
Last week's work, colored pencils
Procedure:
You may begin your class today by simply hanging the work you have done on the wall and stand away from it. Look at what you have done and use the work to inspire some type of background pattern. You will need a background pattern both inside and outside your silhouette. It would be wise to plan some different designs with your colored pencils on scrap paper before you actually begin working. You may use the same design and simply change colors, or you may use the same colors but different designs. Your imagination is your limit. Your background design should serve to unify the entire work. Once you begin filling in the background patterns, remember to color solidly, whether with one color or layering several colors. The entire page needs to be filled. Do not rush your work. Great things are worth great efforts.
Conclusion:
The complexities involved with this project have required great effort from the students for which they should be commended. Encourage them to share their work with one another and find positive qualities about others' drawings. Mount their work and display for everyone to enjoy.
