Fifth Grade Art Lesson 12
Silhouettes, Part 2 Coloring in Our Silhouette Symbols
Objective:
The student will begin coloring in the symbols inside their silhouette.
Materials:
Work from last lesson, colored pencils
Procedure:
Today we will begin coloring in the symbols on our silhouette. Keep scrap paper handy to practice mixing colors together as well as working out how you want your colors organized. Instruct the students to pay attention to detail and use vivid color. In the end the white paper should be filled with color. If white is necessary, a white pencil should be used. Selecting color requires knowing what will be next to or around each particular symbol. Therefore the students' planning once again becomes very important. Encourage the students to control their pencils. No scribbling is allowed. Building up or layering color creates dynamic visual effects. Have the students work slowly and control their work to get the best result.
Conclusion:
The final stage of our silhouette work will include designing a background for both the inside and outside the silhouette line. Store the students' work in a safe place for the next lesson.
